NSS Laboratories provides product Listing and Recognition services. Our Listing and Recognition services are performed in accordance with ISO 17025:2005 and the requirements set forth by OSHA for Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs). Although NSS is not a NRTL, we are approved in several jurisdictions and if necessary we can involve a NRTL for final product approval.

Component and Equipment Listing

Product Listings are performed on completed products. If a NSS Listed label or mark is on a product, the mark indicates that samples of the complete product have been tested to nationally recognized Safety Standards and found to be free from reasonably foreseeable risk of fire, electric shock and related hazards in accordance with the requirements of the applicable standard.

Listed products are subjected to the NSS follow up program. The follow up program assesses the manufacturing process and ensures that the Listed product continues to be manufactured in accordance with the construction and performance requirements of the applicable standard. Follow up inspections are performed up to 4 times a year.

Component and Equipment Recognition

A Recognized Component is tested using the same procedures and test methods that are used for Listed products.  Recognized component evaluatinos are generally for a very specific intended use.

Recognized components are also subjected to the NSS follow up inspection program.

Preliminary Factory Inspection and Follow Up Inspections

The preliminary factory inspection is used to ensure the manufacturer is capable of replicating the tested samples originally submitted for certification. The purpose of the inspection is also to confirm that the manufacturer is performing the required production tests and use of the NSS Mark will be in accordance with the terms and conditions set forth in the Service Agreement. If a proper system is not in place our follow up inspectors will work with the manufacturer to ensure a proper system is established.

Once the preliminary factory inspection is completed, the manufacturer is then authorized to use the NSS mark on the approved product. Once the manufacturer is authorized to use the NSS mark, a minimum of four factory inspections will be performed annually to ensure proper procedures are being followed and the NSS mark is only affixed to duplicates of the smaple submitted to NSS for approval.
